Concerns Mount Over Massive 'Auction' Info Leak
http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200804/200804180010.html

The personal information of some 10.81 million users of Auction, Korea's largest e-marketplace, was leaked in a hacking incident in early February, it was learned on Thursday. It was the largest compromise of user information in a single hacker attack in Korea's history.
Experts fear that the damage to Auction users could be immense, as the leaked information includes names, residence registration numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, and in some cases bank account and credit card numbers.

According to the results of an investigation by the National Police Agency's Cyber Terror Response Center, a user with the name "fuckkr" may have hacked into the company's website using a computer worm from an overseas IP address. Existing computer anti-virus services were unable to detect the worm.

What is perhaps more shocking is that the company was at a loss as to what to do about the attack until information on more than 10 million, or 60 percent of 18 million subscribers, was leaked. With the extent of the damage now revealed, Auction will likely face its most serious crisis since its founding.
